Actress Caity Lotz was shooting DC's Legends of Tomorrow in Vancouver when she first met her future husband, Canadian actor Kyle Schmid. "I was telling my friend how I finally felt like I was ready to start dating," Caity shares with Brides. "She told me about her husband’s friend who was in town filming. [On] February 21, 2021, we did a quick a coffee double date and the rest is history!"
A little over a year later, Kyle decided to surprise Caity with a very important question while on vacation in Marrakesh. "We were staying at my favorite hotel, El Fenn, and he had the hotel reach out to see if I wanted to do a photoshoot while I was there," she recounts. "We were shooting on the roof at sunset and I turned around and he was down on one knee. I was so surprised it took me a second to realize what was happening. Then I immediately started crying, and said 'Yes, of course!' It was during the call to prayer so the whole city was sounded like it was coming to life as the sunset. It was beautiful." She adds, "He did good."
The couple decided to invite 50 of their closest friends and family to Cartegena, Colombia to celebrate their love and watch them exchange vows. They worked with planner Daniela Lopera from Caribe Cordial Weddings to create a packed itinerary of events for their guests to make the most out of their journey. "In addition to the actual wedding, Daniela also helped plan a welcome party on the beach at Sofitel Barú, a boat excursion with Bona Vida Catamaranes, a 40-person rehearsal dinner at Celele Resturante, and a post-wedding brunch. It was a lot of planning! There was absolutely no way we could of done all that without her," the bride and groom share.
On February 11, 2023, all the planning came together for an intimate and joyous Colombian celebration. Ahead, see all the details from the actors' beautiful wedding, as planned by Caribe Cordial Weddings and photographed by Dos Más En La Mesa.

Caity and Kyle looked effortlessly chic in black and white for their five-course rehearsal dinner at Celele Resturante. "[It] was one of the best dinners we’ve ever had," they share. "They are such artists there. It is a must visit!"

Kyle had an "amazing experience" designing two custom suits for his wedding day with Klein Epstein Parker. "I’d never worn a bespoke suit before. After feeling how a suit is really meant to fit, it’s going to be a struggle to wear anything else," he says. "I can’t thank the team over the Klein Epstein Parker enough. I had so much fun designing my looks, from the lining to the shoes, right down to the button stitching." He began the evening in white silk dinner jacket with a shawl collar and black tuxedo pants.
The groom accessorized his look with two special pieces. "I wore a gold chain Caity gave me after we got engaged. I always laughed at the idea that it signified the male version of an engagement ring," Kyle shares. "I also wore a watch I’ve had for a while that was gifted to me by a friend Declan James Watch Co. who make great automatic pieces and work closely with the Navy Seal Foundation."

Kyle spent his wedding day morning taking a quick dip in the pool and getting ready with his groomsmen. He kept his grooming simple with a shower and a shave. "It’s funny,” he says. “I wasn’t nervous. I was more excited than anything else. Caity’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me."

Caity and her bridesmaids had a blast in coordinated pajama sets as they had their hair and makeup done for the day. She says of choosing a wedding party, "I think it’s a really nice way to honor someone who has really been there for you. My maid of honor, Dominique Domingo, really went above a beyond with her duties. She planned the sweetest bachelorette for me and totally had my back at the wedding."

I had to try on so many dresses to get to that ‘The One’ feeling.

The bride looked effortlessly romantic in a beautiful strapless A-line gown by Galia Lahav. But, finding that dreamy design took some work. "I had to try on so many dresses to get to that ‘The One’ feeling. Sometimes too many options can make the experience stressful, and I was all over the place. I even said yes to a more simple dress and then changed my mind. I tried to talk myself into it being right, but my gut knew," Caity explains. "I didn’t want a simple dress. I wanted something extra. It needed to be a moment. I’m usually a low-key, go-for-comfort person, but not on my wedding day. That day, we go for gold."

"When I tried on the Georgia at Galia Lahav, it was perfect. It gave me the princess ballgown grandiosity I wanted, but still felt fresh and modern. The sheer corset top gave me the structure I needed while still looking soft and delicate," she shares.
She paired the look with a veil from the same designer. "It was cathedral length with lace detailing to my fingertips. I really liked that the lace didn’t match the pattern of the dress," she says. "It gave the look more dimension. It was really important for me to have something that felt timeless so I could pass it down to the daughter I hope to have one day. This veil really felt like an heirloom piece, even though this is the start of its journey."

Caity knew she wanted a natural and timeless look for her wedding day beauty. Her first step in achieving this was through her daily skincare routine and Fraxel laser treatments with Lisa Marie Blair at The Skin Girls in Vancouver. "It really helped with tone, texture, and overall rejuvenation," she explains. "Fun fact: Lisa was the one who set me up Kyle and I up!"
"I was very lucky that one of my close friends, Alison Christian, is a incredible makeup artist and did my makeup for the wedding. The feeling we went for was light and ethereal," shares the bride. "The goal for the ceremony look was for the makeup to not be noticed—to just accentuate." For her hair, she pulled it back in a half-up, half-down style. " By keeping all of my hair behind me, I still got a clean look that showcases the neckline, but it made for a much prettier profile and felt softer," she says.

"I feel like matching bridesmaids dresses is going out of fashion, but there’s a solidarity to it that I find supportive and sweet. I wanted something that felt elevated and elegant. Something my bridesmaids could feel comfortable in and flatter each of their unique and beautiful body-types, explains Caity.
"My two close friends, Nicole and Michelle Isaacs, recently launched a beautiful clothing line called KADIMAH, so I asked them if they would design something. They came up with the most amazing kaftan. It had a beautiful flowy silhouette that felt both dramatic and elegant. They used an emerald green satin to play homage to Colombia, which is known for having the most beautiful emerald stones. The dress in now available on their site!"

Caity and Kyle had an intimate first look before making their way to the ceremony. "It was mostly a practical decision," they share. "We wanted to have time to do family portraits before the ceremony since we wanted to change looks before reception,"

"We also thought it would help get some of those tears out of the way so we didn’t cry through the whole ceremony." They add, "We still did."

The couple's vision for their ceremony at the gardens of the Sanctuary de San Pedro Clave was "a return to nature." "It was such a beautiful space full of texture and history. I really wanted everything to feel very natural and overgrown so I asked that all the flowers look like they were growing up from the ground," Caity shares. "It felt like all the old stone was just being re-embraced by nature."

The bride and groom each wrote their own vows for the ceremony. "I think there is something so romantic about writing your own vows. To take the time to really think about the promise and commitments you want to make to your partner, and to be able to stand in front of all your friends and family and tell your partner how amazing they are and what they mean to you," reflects Caity. "I cried so much writing those vows. What an amazing opportunity to write down words that hold so much meaning."

"As artists ourselves, we were all about the entertainment! As soon as the guests walked out of the ceremony, they were met by local dancers and drummers," recall the couple. "It was a really fun surprise and they walked with us through the streets to the reception. It was so cool to feel so happy and have total strangers join in on the joy and celebration with you."

Caity and Kyle decided to counter the light and airy ceremony with a stunning setup at the Casa Del Conde de Pestagua. "For dinner, the vibe was dark, moody, romantic, and sensual. When everyone entered it was mostly just candle lit, so you felt as though you were transported back to the colonial times of when this house was built," shares Caity. "We wanted it to feel very intimate, sensual, and soulful."

You can try to conceptualize a space as much as you want, but nothing comes close to actually being there and feeling it.

Two banquet tables were set up with lush florals, gilded plates, and hanging chandeliers above for the reception. "My favorite part of the planning process was when we flew to Cartagena to do a table mockup," recalls Caity. "We got to see a table set up with the flowers, lights, dishes, and everything in the actual space. You can try to conceptualize a space as much as you want, but nothing comes close to actually being there and feeling it. The vendors in Colombia have impeccable taste and we ended up drinking wine and just experimenting with how different combinations and placements of all the elements made us feel."

Both Caity and Kyle swapped their looks for the reception. The groom donned a royal blue velvet double-breasted dinner jacket by Klein Epstein Parker, and the bride changed into a new Galia Lahav dress. "I ended up having three different dresses for my wedding night, which is admittedly excessive," she says. "But, there was this sparkly little number on the sample rack at Galia Lahav that called out to me. It wasn’t at all the look I had in mind, but I wanted to try it on just for fun. It fit like a glove and made me feel like a sassy '80s supermodel who time traveled to 1920s Hollywood. It brought out all my glamour and attitude. I didn’t know I needed a reception dress, but now there was no going back."

The bride also changed up her beauty look for a dinner full of delicious bites and speeches from loved ones. "For my reception look, we went much more glam with a bold cat-eye liner and red lip," says Caity.

"After dinner, we upped the lighting so you would feel more of the lush tropical surroundings and the mood became more magical and exciting," they share. Before the evening transitioned over to the dance floor, the newlyweds cut into a multi-tiered wedding cake with gilded floral accents.

Surrounded by their guests, the couple took to the dance floor for the first time as husband and wife. "Kyle’s childhood friend Martin Acosta sang and played guitar for our first dance," shares Caity. "He has such an beautiful voice and it felt so special to hear his rendition of 'Unchained Melody.'”

It was time for another quick change as the party kicked into high gear. "I knew that I was only going to be able to maintain that level of beauty for so long before all bets where off and I needed to tear up the dance floor," says Caity. "Which is where dress number three came in: a short beaded dress by Nadine Merabi that moved fantastically." Instead of a traditional wedding band, the couple hired the group Pargo Project to perform a set. They also had DJ Ariel Waldman spin tunes until 3 a.m.

"Colombia has a really fun tradition that I think every wedding needs, La Hora Loca (Crazy Hour)," shares the couple. "Just before 1 a.m., when you might feel like maybe the party is dying down, a parade of dancers in elaborate costumes and on stilts join the party with a bunch of party favors. We all had so much fun and danced our faces off."
