Kat and Thomas Jamieson's Elegant and Intimate Wedding in Nantucket

Planned by Tracy Taylor Ward.

It took almost four years for Kat Tanita, founder of the lifestyle blog and travel app With Love From Kat, and consultant Thomas Jamieson to go on their second date. But, it was well worth the wait.

"We met through our mutual friend Ali in July 2015. We talked and laughed for hours. He went home and told all of his friends that he was in love," shares Kat. "The timing was all wrong though. I was actually moving to Paris a few days later for the summer and, at the time, I was considering a permanent move. So we lost touch after that first date."

"Four years later, I moved back to NYC and threw a big housewarming party at my apartment in Soho," she continues. "I invited our friend Ali, who posted a photo of us on Instagram. He immediately saw it and messaged her that I was 'the one that got away.' He still had my number, and we set up a date at City Winery in West Village on the most perfect summer night in May 2019. Everything clicked. The timing was just right and I knew he was the one that night."

A year and a half later, Thomas proposed on the beach in Miami. "It was so special and gorgeous," recalls Kat. "He had my favorite photographer Bailey Templeton hiding behind a beach stand capturing the moment. Those photos are my absolute favorite."

While it took a few years for their second date to happen, the couple wasted no time to take a trip down the aisle. They set a date for June 23, 2021, and hosted an intimate wedding with 15 guests in Nantucket. "I grew up going to Nantucket and my aunt has a home there," says Kat. "[It] has always had a special place in my heart! I always feel at ease on the island."

The couple worked with Tracy Taylor Ward to help achieve their goals of a "classic yet effortless" wedding inspired by Ralph Lauren’s tablescapes. While the event was small, preparing for the two-day celebration was still a big task.

"Planning a wedding is a lot of work! There are so many details that go into it," shares Kat. "Even for just 15 people—you still have to coordinate with the same amount of vendors as if you were having 200 guests." She adds, "If I ever plan another big event, I’ll definitely keep a shared Google document that acts as the 'master' document to reference and edit instead of going back and forth and searching through hundreds of emails!"

Curating the tablescapes for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception was one of Kat's favorite parts of the planning process. "I loved finding the Etsy vendors for the custom monogram napkins, getting the calligrapher to hand-paint the rehearsal dinner menus, and dreaming up the colors and details in my head," she shares. "I didn’t make anything myself, but I custom designed the rehearsal dinner menu with the calligrapher."

For her wedding day, Kat did her own hair and makeup as she got ready in a silk slip from Fleur du Mal. She also decked herself out in pearls from head to toe, donning earrings from Bloomingdales and shoes by Jimmy Choo.

As for her dress, Kat wore a beautiful gown and veil from Monique Lhuillier. "The corset bodice was so dreamy and the lace overlay details were stunning," she shares. "I felt so comfortable in it despite it being such a dramatic dress. I never thought I’d wear lace, but I fell in love with this dress. And, the veil sealed the deal."

However, the bride almost didn't wear this style on her wedding day. "I actually had another dress picked out months prior," she adds. "It was one of the first ones I tried on. I got so excited, I said yes to the dress way too soon and then regretted it later! Luckily, I went back and was able to get a new dress. My advice is even if you think it’s ‘the one,’ wait wait wait. Try on a ton of different dresses and just have fun with the entire dress shopping experience."

To balance out the look, Kat carried a simple bouquet of baby's breath.

While the couple decided to not have a wedding party, all of their 15 guests received custom welcome bags upon arrival. Kat adds, "Everything was pretty much personalized—down to the monogrammed napkins!"

The pair decided their welcome cocktail should also be a work of art. Kat says, "We love martinis so much, that we had an entire martini tower!"

White roses brought a classic meets minimalist feel to the ceremony decor, while loose petals created a romantic pathway down the aisle up to a beautiful arch full of greenery.

One of Kat's most treasured moments of the day was when her father walked her down the aisle to “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Kina Grannis. "A favorite song from the movie Crazy Rich Asians," she adds.

The ceremony was short and sweet for the pair and their guests. "We actually got married prior to our wedding and said our vows to each other privately which was really special," shares Kat. "I highly recommend doing that!"

After the ceremony, the couple took some private moments alone together to stroll though the property.

Kat's advice for couples planning their own wedding? “Remember that it’s about you two and no one else," she says. "Set the tone and don’t let any of the outside noise or inevitable hiccups that will arise get in the way of your special day!”

After the ceremony, the couple hosted a sit-down dinner in the backyard with an elegant white, black, and gold tablescape incorporating Ralph Lauren dish and tableware. "They turned out so beautiful," notes Kat.

With such a small guest list, the couple decided to not have a wedding party. However, the fashion-forward pair requested guests to stick to a color palette. "Everyone wore either navy or champagne which looked really cohesive," Kat says. "[The men] wore navy tuxedos from Banana Republic."

"For our wedding dinner we were inspired by our love for Italian food," says Kat. The pair offered a large menu including burrata and prosciutto, cacio e pepe, slow-cooked beef short ribs, and flourless chocolate tarts for dessert.

For their first dance, the couple swayed to the tune "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers. "It was one of the first songs we danced to at Arthur’s Tavern in the West Village on our fifth date," Kat shares.
