Men's wedding fashion has been a popular topic for several years, as men are now taking control over what they wear on their special days. During a Live with Kelly and Mark segment on January 10, 2024, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos decided to give their take on one growing fashion trend that's sweeping the wedding space—"manlier" and personalized wedding rings for men—and the couple did not hold back. Consuelos began the conversation by referencing an article by The Guardian, according to People, that profiled the jewelry company Manly Bands. The story, titled "Hobbits and Jack Daniel's: Can Men's Wedding Rings Become Manlier?", explains how the Utah-based company helps men create personalized wedding rings inspired by "manly" themes like The Lord of the Rings and whiskey barrels.
"I'm from the era where you just got a simple band. I like the simple band," Consuelos shared in response to the article. "But guys now are saying that they want to embellish a little bit." He then explained how some men even have "Batman, Superman, Spider-Man" featured on their pieces. Ripa jokingly reacted with an eye roll, to which Consuelos teasingly replied, "So men out there, if you get anything superhero or a decoder ring, you're telling your wife that she's marrying a child."
Consuelos continued their very candid conversation urging men to “just go with the single band,” though he did playfully note that his character would be "Speedy Gonzales" if he were to opt for this type of wedding ring. Ripa ended their chat by stating that she's okay with "men wearing a statement ring," as long as it's refined. As an example, she referenced a friend who wears a personalized ring and made it very clear that "he’s not wearing a Ring Pop, he’s not wearing a secret decoder ring, he’s wearing a diamond ring.”

Ripa is no stranger to the topic of wedding rings. During a previous segment of Live with Kelly and Mark, the television host once shared that she lost her wedding ring at home. “I was moisturizing my hands, and I went to put it back on and now I can’t find it!" she told the audience. Consuelos, lovingly, just reassured his wife that she would "find it" soon—and, to no surprise, she did! On a later taping, Kelly updated the audience: “Breaking news! My ring has been found,” she explained. “In case you were wondering, it was under the hairbrush.”
The couple tied the knot in a Las Vegas elopement on May 1, 1996. Since then, they have welcomed three children, Michael, Lola, and Joaquin, and have given fans insight into what keeps their relationship long-lasting. "We compromise all the time. We always are saying that when we negotiate with each other, we are only mildly disappointed in the end result and that is a success," Ripa told USA Today in 2022. "And then the obstinance is we are too stubborn to ever quit on each other. We're lifers. His parents have been married 60 years, my parents have been married 61 years. That's all we know. We only know how to compromise and be together."
