A best man is someone who takes on the responsibility of serving as the groom's right hand during the planning stages, and standing by the man of honor's side on his big day. From organizing the bachelor party to delivering a poignant speech at the reception, this special position is one that is highly valued and treasured within the wedding industry.

Throughout time, Hollywood stars and royals, in particular, have often stepped up to the plate to take on the role of best man whenever a friend or family member ties the knot. Whether it was Harry Styles playing the part at his mother’s ceremony or Kevin and Joe Jonas guiding their brother Nick Jonas to the altar, there were several famous best men that contributed to the success of their loved ones' celebration. And in order to spotlight these special moments, we've rounded up the top celebrity and royal best men of all time—plus, a look at the outfits they wore and the details behind the nuptials they supported.

David Beckham

David Beckham took on the role of best man not once, but three different times. The former soccer player assisted Christian Adams—the brother of his wife, Victoria Beckham—when he said “I do” to Emma Strafford in 2017. To carry out his responsibilities, David wore a three-piece navy suit with a white rose boutonniere.

In 2021, he performed his duties again when his dad, Ted Beckham, married Hilary Meredith at a private family wedding in London. For the occasion, the athlete suited up in navy and paired his ensemble with a white shirt and satin tie. Most recently, Marc Anthony asked David to do the honors during his vow swap with Nadia Ferreira, at the Perez Art Museum in Miami, in January of 2023. This time, however, he rocked a black suit.

Harry Styles

In 2013, Harry Styles had a very important gig outside of music. The “As It Was” singer served as the best person for his mother's wedding to Robin Twist. Styles also escorted his mom, Anne Cox, down the aisle to meet her husband-to-be at the altar. For the affair, the artist wore a black suit, which he paired with a skinny black tie and a white rose on his lapel to match the bridal bouquet. At the time, a guest told Mirror, “Harry couldn’t stop smiling. He hardly left his mum’s side, and she looked really proud of him. He sipped champagne and chatted with everyone.”

Niall Horan

Another former One Direction band member also stood on the sidelines as the best man in 2013. Niall Horan—clad in a three-piece suit and striped tie—took on the challenge when his big brother, Greg Horan, recited his promises to Denise Kelly at St. Michael’s Church in Castletown Geoghegan in County Westmeath, Ireland. In an interview with Irish Sun, as reported by Mirror, Greg said the decision was an easy one to make. “He’s my only brother,” Greg remarked. “There was never any other choice for my best man than Niall.”

Shad Moss

Rapper Shad Moss, better known by his stage name “Bow Wow,” put on quite the show as the best man at his friend WackStar’s wedding on August 7, 2021. To evoke old Hollywood glamour, Moss wore a black tuxedo and matching bow tie with Christian Louboutin shoes. After WackStar tied the knot, the rapper kicked off the reception with an impromptu performance with the help of fellow artist Soulja Boy.

Jack Brooksbank

Jack Brooksbank, Princess Eugenie’s husband, played the best man role for Caspar Jopling at his August 2019 wedding with Ellie Goulding at York Minster in England. The royal joined the rest of the groomsmen in a morning coat, gray trousers, and a green tie.

Prince Edward

Instead of calling them “best men,” royal weddings traditionally have “supporters” assist the groom. When Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson made it official in July of 1986 at Westminster Abbey in London, the groom asked his younger brother, Prince Edward, to occupy the honorable position. Also in the wedding party was Prince William as the pageboy at just four years old.

Joe Jonas

When Nick Jonas was planning his nuptials to Priyanka Chopra, which took place in December of 2018 at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, the Jonas Brothers star enlisted 11 groomsmen to stand by his side. However, even with such a large wedding party, the singer asked two additional people to be his best men: Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas. Joe admitted to Today that he briefly “blacked out” while delivering his best man speech because he was so overwhelmed with emotion. “This is not only my brother, but my best friend, and to see him marrying his dream girl…there were a lot of tears the whole weekend and a lot of smiles,” he shared.

The second half of Nick’s main support system, Kevin Jonas sported a black tuxedo (which matched the attire of all the other groomsmen) when watching his brother say "I do" to Priyanka Chopra.

Omari Hardwick

Since Power star Omari Hardwick was responsible for introducing his manager, Two Lewis, to actress and singer Naturi Naughton, Lewis returned the favor by enlisting the actor to be his best man. In April of 2022, Hardwick and 10 other groomsmen stood by Lewis’s side while decked out in custom lavender suits from Threads by Tre. “We took a chance and wanted to play with color and the springtime feel,” Naughton told Brides about the groomsmen’s attire. Their ensembles coordinated perfectly with the couple’s purple color palette and glamorous aesthetic.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney is another celebrity who played the role of best man more than once. When fellow Beatles bandmate George Harrison wed Pattie Boyd in 1966, the groom asked McCartney to help on the big day—in addition to Beatles band manager, Brian Epstein, who served as the second best man. More than four decades later, the vocalist was tasked once again to be the best man, when Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood hosted a private ceremony in London with Sally Humphreys in 2012.

Michael Jackson

When producer David Gest married Liza Minnelli in March of 2002, they threw an unforgettable New York City bash with a star-studded guest list. Among the 850 friends and family they invited, the former couple—who divorced in 2007—wanted Michael Jackson to serve as the best man. According to Mirror, the “King of Pop” delivered a speech that was 17 words in length. Unfortunately, he didn’t perform live for the newlyweds.

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman took a step back from the spotlight when his personal trainer, Michael Ryan, tied the knot with Zoe Bingsley-Pullin back in 2007. “It was amazing,” the X-Men actor gushed after the ceremony. “I’m absolutely honored and proud to be Michael’s best man. He’s been my best friend for close on 20 years.” Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, and their two children, Oscar and Ava, also attended.

At Taylor Lautner and Taylor Dome’s California winery wedding in November of 2022, television host Jason Kennedy stood by Lautner’s side as the best man. Kennedy and the rest of the groomsmen went for a classic look in black tuxedos. His wife, Lauren Scruggs, was also part of the wedding party.
